Cecilia Paredes Blends Seamlessly into Luxuriant Botanical Settings with Her Meticulously Coordinated Paint and Fabric Camouflage.

In a pair of concurrent exhibitions, Peruvian artist Cecilia Paredes (previously known for her extensive collection of “photo performances”) delves deeper into the intricate interplay between our bodies and the world around us. Currently on display at two separate Ruiz-Healy Art locations, these solo exhibitions showcase Paredes’ latest creations, which further explore her distinctive techniques of camouflage and concealment. The artist envelops herself in intricately patterned fabrics, painting any exposed skin with the same design. She then meticulously aligns herself with the surroundings, resulting in captivating and bewildering images that blur the boundaries of her physical form.
Both exhibitions, titled “Walking in My Galaxy Blue” and “The Weaving of Dust,” offer diverse perspectives on the relationship between individuals and their environments. They draw inspiration from celestial realms, lush forests, and ornamental vessels suitable for domestic interiors. Through these self-portraits, Paredes continues her exploration of the connection between personal identity and external influences, prompting viewers to reconsider how we perceive and present ourselves in the context of the outside world.
You can experience these exhibitions at Ruiz-Healy Art until November 3rd in New York and until November 18th in San Antonio. For updates on Cecilia Paredes and her work, you can follow her on Instagram.
